The right fielder often has the best arm in the outfield and the left fielder is the power hitter but it is the center fielder that is the fastest. The center fielder has to cover the largest part of the field and has to be able to move laterally as well as forwards and backwards. Kenny Lofton, Bernie Williams, are some of today’s best center fielders. Players such as Jim Edmonds and Darrin Erstad understand how to get to the ball and have instincts for the game but aren’t necessarily the fastest or quickest. If a player is able to get to the ball then their arm strength becomes secondary.
